Resistance for Hope

The Contemporary Art Platform, in collaboration with the Embassy of the State of Palestine, presents Resistance for Hope — an exhibition that brings together works from the CAP Collection in a collective expression of resistance, hope and resilience.

Featuring paintings, sculptures, photographs, mixed media works, and installations by Hani Zurob, Hazem Harb, Abdul Rahman Katanani, Ahmed Abu Al Adas, Mohammed Joha, Steve Sabella, Alfred Tarazi, Ghassan Hamada, Mary Tuma, Reza Aramesh, Mona Hatoum, Bashar Alhroub and Saad Hamdan, the exhibition reflects the enduring struggle of the Palestinian people and the power of art to bear witness to displacement, loss, and survival.

The exhibition draws its inspiration from the words of Palestinian poet and writer Refaat Alareer, whose poem “If I Die, You Must Live” lends its title and spirit to this event. Written as a message of endurance and love for Palestine, the poem has become a universal call for hope amid devastation. Alareer was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza in 2023, together with members of his family. His words echo through the exhibition as a reminder that even in the face of destruction, the human voice — and the will to live — cannot be silenced.

An installation curated by Mona Al Hunaidi, inspired by Alareer’s poem, brings his words to life through a kite that soars above Gaza’s skies — a symbol of remembrance and defiance. The kite carries the names of journalists who were martyred while documenting the atrocities unfolding in Gaza, transforming their sacrifice into a collective act of truth and witness. It stands as both a tribute and a reminder that their voices, like Alareer’s, continue to rise beyond destruction.

A Virtual Reality installation, produced by Untold Palestine and Yura, offers an immersive journey into the heart of Gaza’s devastation. Using documentary 360° footage, it places viewers at ground zero in central Gaza, revealing the extensive destruction of neighborhoods and the endurance of those who remain. This experience bridges art, testimony, and technology, transforming digital data into empathy.

On one of the gallery walls, a continuous film projection scrolls through the names of more than 60,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza, forming a living memorial that bears witness to the horrific and ongoing genocide and to the enduring resilience of Palestinian memory.

Resistance for Hope stands as a space for remembrance, testimony, and solidarity — an artistic affirmation that even in the darkest times, resistance can be an act of hope.

 

مقاومة من أجل الأمل

تقدّم منصة الفن المعاصر (CAP)، بالتعاون مع سفارة دولة فلسطين، معرض المقاومة من أجل الأمل، الذي يجمع أعمالاً من مجموعة (CAP)في تعبيرٍ جماعي عن المقاومة والأمل والصمود.

يضمّ المعرض لوحاتٍ ومنحوتاتٍ وصوراً فوتوغرافيةً وأعمالاً فنيةً متعددة الوسائط لفنانين من بينهم هاني زروْب، حازم حرب، عبد الرحمن كتّاني، أحمد أبو العدس، محمد جحا، ستيف سابيلا، ألفرد طرزي، غسان حمادة، ماري تومة، رضا عرامش، بشار الحروب، منى حاطوم، وسعد حمدان. وتعكس هذه الأعمال النضال المستمر للشعب الفلسطيني، وقوة الفن في توثيق التهجير والفقد والبقاء.

استلهم المعرض روحه وعنوانه من كلمات الشاعر والكاتب الفلسطيني رفعت العرير، صاحب القصيدة «إذا كان لابدّ أن أموت»، التي أصبحت نداءً عالمياً للأمل وسط الدمار. كُتبت القصيدة كرسالة صمودٍ وحبٍ لفلسطين، فيما قُتل العرير جراء غارةٍ جوية إسرائيلية على منزل ‏عائلته عام 2023، مع عددٍ من أفراد عائلته. وتبقى كلماته تتردّد في أرجاء المعرض لتؤكّد أن الصوت الإنساني – والإرادة في الحياة – التي لا يمكن إسكاتُهما.

قدّمت منى الهنيدي عملاً تركيبياً مستلهَماً من قصيدة العرير، يجسّد كلماته من خلال طائرةٍ ورقيةٍ تحلّق في سماء غزة — رمزاً للذكرى والتحدّي. وتحمل الطائرة أسماء بعض الصحفيين الذين استُشهدوا أثناء توثيقهم الفظائع التي شهدتها غزة، لتتحوّل تضحياتهم إلى فعلٍ جماعي من الحقيقة والشهادة. ويقف هذا العمل تكريماً لهم وتذكيراً بأن أصواتهم، مثل صوت العرير، مازالت تعلو فوق الدمار.

بالإضافة نقدّم عملاً تركيب الواقع الافتراضي (Virtual Reality) الذي أعدّته Untold Palestine و Yura تجربةً غامرة في قلب الدمار في غزة. ومن خلال صورٍ وثائقية بزاوية 360 درجة، يُنقَل الزائر إلى مركز غزة المنكوبة، ليرى حجم الدمار الهائل الذي طال الأحياء السكنية، وليشهد على صمود من بقوا هناك. تجمع هذه التجربة بين الفن والشهادة والتكنولوجيا، محوّلةً البيانات الرقمية إلى تعاطفٍ إنساني.

وعلى أحد جدران المعرض، يُعرض فيلمٌ متواصل تُدرَج فيه أسماء أكثر من ستين ألف فلسطيني قُتلوا في غزة، ليشكّل نصباً تذكارياً حيّاًيشهد على الإبادة الجماعية المروّعة والمستمرة، وعلى صمود الذاكرة الفلسطينية.

يقدّم معرض المقاومة من أجل الأمل فضاءً للتذكّر والشهادة والتضامن – وتأكيداً فنياً على أن المقاومة، حتى في أحلك اللحظات، يمكن أن تكون فعلاً من أفعال الأمل
