Contemporary Art Platform is delighted to present a solo exhibition by Maysaloun Faraj (b. 1955, Los Angeles), featuring a curated selection of paintings spanning 20 years of her artistic exploration. Born in the United States, educated in Baghdad, and based in London with periods in Paris, Faraj’s work is shaped by memory, cultural heritage and the enduring search for meaning amid change. Engaging with place, identity and continuity, she transforms upheaval into visual poetry, finding harmony in chaos. From early geometric investigations to her acclaimed Nakhal and HOME series, the exhibition unfolds chronologically and thematically, inviting visitors to trace the evolution of her work alongside the life experiences it reflects.

Contemporary Art Platform is pleased to present the first solo exhibition in Kuwait by Iraqi artist Maysaloun Faraj. This exhibition traces two decades of her artistic journey, offering a rare opportunity to experience the depth, rigor and emotional resonance of her practice from 2005 to 2025.

Faraj’s work bridges personal experience and cultural inheritance, reflecting a life lived between geographies and histories. Through abstraction, color and form, she explores themes of identity, memory, exile, belonging and resilience, creating a visual language that is at once intimate, poetic and universal. Her compositions navigate the tension between “roots” and “horizons”,  revealing the pull between grounding and becoming, continuity and transformation.

The exhibition unfolds both chronologically and thematically, presenting a curated selection from her early geometric compositions to her recent Nakhal and HOME series. In the Nakhal series, the date palm emerges as a powerful symbol of endurance, heritage and rootedness, each tree acting as a witness, storyteller and emblem of survival. Meanwhile, the HOME series, developed during the global Covid-19 lockdowns, transforms the domestic space into a site of introspection, resilience and poetic reflection, revealing the multiplicity of what “home” can mean.

Faraj’s dialogue with modernist traditions is evident yet transformative. Her work references the minimalist rigor of Kazimir Malevich and the chromatic lyricism of Henri Matisse, yet her abstractions remain deeply tethered to human experience and emotion. Color, texture and form become vessels for memory, longing and reflection, balancing joy and melancholy in quiet harmony.

Roots & Horizons: T/Racing Time is more than a retrospective, it is a meditation on the power of art to map inner terrains, to hold space for complexity and to offer connection and clarity in turbulent times. Faraj’s work invites viewers to journey alongside her, to trace time, to pause and to encounter the enduring capacity of art to root us, move us and expand our understanding of life, memory and identity.

يسر منصة الفن المعاصر (CAP) أن تقدم أول معرض فردي في الكويت للفنانة العراقية ميسلون فرج. يتتبع هذا المعرض مسيرة فنية تمتد على مدى عقدين، ويتيح فرصة نادرة لاكتشاف العمق والدقة والبعد الإنساني في أعمالها من عام 2005 حتى عام 2025

تجسّد أعمال فرج جسراً بين التجربة الشخصية والإرث الثقافي، وتعكس حياةً عاشت بين جغرافيات وتواريخ متعددة. ومن خلال التجريد واللون والشكل، تتناول الفنانة موضوعات الهوية، والذاكرة، والمنفى، والانتماء، والصمود، لتخلق لغة بصرية تتسم بالحميمية والشاعرية والإنسانية في آنٍ واحد
تتنقل تركيباتها بين “الجذور” و”الآفاق”، كاشفةً عن التوتر الخلاق بين الثبات والتحوّل، بين الاستمرارية والتجدد

يتكشف المعرض زمنياً وموضوعياً، من خلال مجموعة مختارة بعناية من أعمالها الهندسية المبكرة وصولاً إلى سلسلتي النخل والبيت الأحدث.
في سلسلة النخل، تبرز شجرة النخيل كرمزٍ قوي للتحمّل والهوية والجذور، حيث تتحول كل شجرة إلى شاهدٍ وساردٍ ورمزٍ للبقاء
أما سلسلة البيت، التي أُبدعت خلال فترات الإغلاق العالمي بسبب جائحة كوفيد-19، فتعيد تعريف الفضاء المنزلي كمكانٍ للتأمل والصمود والرؤية الشعرية، كاشفةً عن تعددية مفهوم “البيت” وما يحمله من معانٍ إنسانية عميقة

يظهر في أعمال فرج حوارها مع التقاليد الحداثية بشكلٍ واضح ومتحوّل في آنٍ واحد، إذ تستلهم من الصرامة الشكلية لدى كازيمير ماليفيتش ومن شاعرية الألوان لدى هنري ماتيس، غير أن تجريداتها تبقى متجذّرة في التجربة الإنسانية والعاطفة الصادقة
فاللون والملمس والشكل يتحولون إلى أوعية للذاكرة والحنين والتأمل، متوازنين بين الفرح والشجن في انسجامٍ هادئ

إن جذور وآفاق: تَتَبُّع الزمن ليس مجرد استعراضٍ لأعمال الفنانة، بل هو تأملٌ في قوة الفن وقدرته على رسم خرائط الداخل الإنساني، واحتضان التعقيد، وتقديم مساحاتٍ من التواصل والوضوح في أزمنةٍ مضطربة
تدعونا ميسلون فرج من خلال هذا المعرض إلى السير معها في رحلةٍ عبر الزمن، إلى التوقف والتأمل، واكتشاف قدرة الفن الدائمة على أن يرسّخنا، ويحرّكنا، ويوسّع مداركنا حول الحياة والذاكرة والهوية
