Organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Peru in Kuwait and Contemporary Art Platform.
Ayacucho retablos are one of Peru’s most distinctive forms of traditional art. Originating in the Andean region of Ayacucho, these colorful handcrafted boxes feature miniature scenes depicting everyday life, festivals, music, dance, traditional occupations, and Andean customs.
Carefully handmade and painted by skilled artisans, each retablo tells a story and reflects the creativity, identity, and cultural heritage of the Peruvian people.
Today, Ayacucho retablos are an iconic expression of Peruvian folk art, preserving traditions and stories passed down through generations.
