The art tribute of the Greek painter and architect Makis Warlamis to Alexander the Great, after being exhibited throughout Europe, Egypt and Jordan, has arrived in Kuwait, at the mouth of the Euphrates River, where Alexander had a rendezvous with his Admiral Nearchos in 323. After 24 centuries, Alexander reappears at the island of Failaka, or Icarus as he named it, where Nearchos, his Admiral and childhood
friend, made plans for the next great steps, the circumnavigation of the Arab peninsula and the exit to the
Red Sea.
Warlamis, whose place of origin is the same as Alexander’s, through his works, wished to point out the
universal aspect of Hellenism that Alexander himself advocated and practiced. Warlamis wrote that “his”
Alexander represents the concept of Hellenism as he perceived it: Hellenism is open to a wide horizon which one can enter into dialogue with other cultures – in the sense of enhancement, not of conquest.
As multidimensional Alexander’s personality was, Warlamis is painting Alexander as a visionary who knew
how to combine most effectively the spirit of youth with the philosophical preeminence of his mentor the
philosopher and scientist Aristotle.
The artist loved the Eastern culture and through his work on Alexander he was interested in reviving the
creative dialog between West and East. A dialog that could lead, like in Alexander’s time, to a better
understanding of both cultures.
In the exhibition we will exhibit, from the hundreds of the collection, sixty paintings that we hope will revive
the legend of Alexander, who thousands of years ago brought different cultures into a creative dialogue.

وها هو قد وصل إلى الكويت، عند مصب نهر الفرات، حيث كان الإسكندر على موعد
مع الأدميرال نيارخوس في عام 323 ، تكريم الرسام والمهندس المعماري اليوناني
ماكس فارلاميس للإسكندر الأكبر، بعد عرضه في جميع أنحاء أوروبا ومصر والأردن.
وبعد 24 قرنا، يظهر الإسكندر من جديد في جزيرة فيلكا، أو ايكاروس كما أسماها،
حيث وضع الأدميرال نيارخوس ، صديق طفولته، خططا للخطوات الكبرى التي تتالت،
ثم الدوران حول شبه الجزيرة العربية، والخروج إلى البحر الأحمر.
كان ماكيس فارلاميس، الذي ينحدر من نفس مسقط رأس الإسكندر، يرغب من خلال
أعماله في الإشارة إلى الجانب العالمي للهيللينية الذي دعا إليه الإسكندر نفسه بل
يمثل مفهوم الهيللينية كما تصوره: » الخاص به « ومارسه. وكتب فارلاميس أن الإسكندر
إن الهيللينية مفتوحة لأفق واسع يمكن للمرء أن يدخل في حوار مع الثقافات الأخرى – «
.» في اطار روح التعاون وليس الغزو
وكما كانت شخصية الإسكندر المتعددة الأبعاد، فقد تصوره فارلاميس بوصفه
زعيما خياليًا عرف كيف يجمع على نحو أكثر فعالية بين روح الشباب والمثال الفلسفي
لمعلمه الفيلسوف والعالم أرسطو.
أحب الفنان الثقافة الشرقية، ومن خلال عمله على مشروع الإسكندر اهتم بإحياء الحوار
الإبداعي بين الغرب والشرق. حوار من الممكن أن يقود، كما حدث في زمن الإسكندر،
إلى فهم أفضل للثقافتين.
سنعرض في المعرض من بين مئات المجموعات؛ ستين لوحة فقط، نأمل أن تعيد إحياء
أسطورة الإسكندر الذي نجح منذ آلاف السنين في تجميع ثقافات مختلفة على مائدة
حوار إبداعي.
