About the Exhibition
RESURRECTION
Resurrection brings together a culmination of three years of Amira Behbahani’s research into colour, texture, material, and spatial form. Drawn from historical and cultural references significant to the region and to the artist’s evolving discourse, these works extend a trajectory first explored in her 2022 exhibition Seeking Refuge. Where Seeking Refuge reflected the collective disorientation of the pandemic era – a time when enforced distance fractured our sense of connection and belonging – Resurrection approaches separation through another realm. Behbahani enters solitude not as an act of escapism, but as a form of repair and reconciliation with reality. Withdrawal becomes a deliberate method of return: an embrace of stillness that transforms isolation into unison. Distancing here is not exile, but a means to rediscover one’s presence to re-emerge into the collective with renewed clarity and intention. Across these works, materiality holds memory, colour registers affect, and texture becomes a site of embodied knowledge.
Behbahani frames resurrection as a process of becoming: a quiet emergence that acknowledges continuity and the cyclical nature of life and death – both literal and metaphorical. Through this sustained artistic and spiritual inquiry. Resurrection invites viewers to consider how solitude, social disengagement, and transformation unfold through the intimate act of reclaiming one’s space in the world.
Their presence has been a fascinating subject to me. Standing gracefully, as if they have just risen from death, full of life and renewed wonder. Their presence feels so profound and timeless, while silently witnessing my new birth.
“Morning Lilies”
البعث يجمع بين ثمرة ثلاثة أعوام من بحث أميرة بهبهاني في اللون والنسيج والمادة والشكل الفضائي. مستوحاة من مراجع تاريخية وثقافية ذات أهمية للمنطقة ولحوار الفن المتطور. تمتد هذه الأعمال على مسار تم استكشافه لأول مرة في معرضها بعنوان الملاذ المفتقد” في عام ٢٠٢٢
حيث عكس الملاذ المفتقد الارتباك الجماعي في زمن الجائحة عندما كسر التباعد المفروض إحساسنا بالاتصال والانتماء
يتناول موضوع “البعث” الفصل عبر عالم آخر. وتدخل بهبهاني إلى العزلة. وتتوافق مع شكل من أشكال الإصلاح والمصالحة مع الواقع. ويصبح الانسحاب منهجا متعمداً للعودة وحضن للثبات الذي يحول العزلة إلى وحدة. هنا لا يعد التباعد نفيا، بل وسيلة الإعادة اكتشاف حضور الشخص والظهور مجدداً في الجمع برؤية واضحة وهدف متجدد
عبر هذه الأعمال. تحتفظ المادة بالذاكرة ويسجل اللون التأثر. ويصبح النسيج محلا للمعرفة المجسدة. تصور بهبهاني “البعث” بأنها عملية بروز هادئ يعترف بالاستمرارية والطابع الدوري للحياة والفناء، سواء حرفياً أو مجازياً
من خلال هذا الاستقصاء الفني والروحي المستمر يدعو موضوع البعث المشاهدين إلى التأمل في كيفية تجلي العزلة والانفصال الاجتماعي والتحول من خلال الفعل الحميمي لاستعادة المرء فضاءه في العالم
حضورهم موضوع يأسرني. يقفون بكل سكون، وكأنهم نهضوا للتو من الفناء مليئة بالعجب المتجدد وجودهم يشعرني بالبعث والخلود كأنهم شاهد صامت على ميلادي الجديد
