Join us for the opening of Sacred Court: The Mesoamerican Ballgame, a photographic exhibition by Mexican artist Javier Hinojosa, presented by the Embassy of Mexico in Kuwait in collaboration with Contemporary Art Platform.

Bridging past and present, the exhibition explores the rich heritage of Mexico’s pre-Hispanic ballgame tradition and its enduring cultural significance, while connecting this ancient legacy to the spirit of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Javier Hinojosa is a renowned Mexican photographer celebrated for his striking landscape and nature photography. Born in Mexico City in 1956, he studied cinematography at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and Fine Arts Education at the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA). Over a career spanning more than four decades, Hinojosa has explored a wide range of photographic techniques, from experimental processes to contemporary fine art photography.

His work is deeply inspired by the natural world, capturing the beauty and diversity of landscapes across Mexico and Latin America while encouraging environmental awareness and conservation. Hinojosa’s photographs have been exhibited internationally, published in numerous books and cultural publications, and included in important public and private collections. He has also taught photography and lectured at universities and cultural institutions throughout Mexico.

Recognized for his contribution to photography and visual arts, Javier Hinojosa has received several awards and honors, including the Medal of Photographic Merit from Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). His work continues to inspire audiences through its poetic portrayal of nature, culture, and the environment.
